Celebrity makeup artist and beauty educator Rain Hannah has a thirst for knowledge and a passion for the power of transformation. At a young age, she developed a fascination with her mother’s make-up drawer, and the UNLV graduate got her start in the industry as a last minute stand-in for an absent makeup artist. Her genuine love of people, combined with her talent with a makeup brush, pushed her quickly into the spotlight, and her brushes have since touched the faces of Hollywood A-Listers such as Kirsten Dunst, Paris Hilton, Mandy Moore and Britney Spears.
Hannah decided to share her inside secrets with those who share her passion by co-founding the RPM Makeup Academy, an online school that allows aspiring makeup artists to effectively learn at their own pace.
In addition, Rain recently launched The Makeup Studio and Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada, and along with renowned beauty innovation guru Brian Fox, she recently co-founded Serendipity Beauty Skincare, a line of beauty products made with clinically-proven ingredients that produce visible, measurable results.
Today, she continues to teach and inspire and is an unstoppable force in the makeup industry.
I grew up as a tomboy! I have three older brothers and one older sister, so following my elders and playing with Hot Wheels in the dirt was the cool thing to do! Also, I always had a love for horses, so at the age of 13, my mom entered me in a Rodeo Queen Pageant. That’s where I first learned what hard work goes into preparing for a beauty pageant. I will never forget my sister showing me how to pluck my eyebrows! OUCH!
What skills do you think are necessary to be a great makeup artist?
You have to love people! Being a professional make-up artist is like being a physiologist. You see people at their most vulnerable state, without their masks on! We are here to make women and men’s beauty shine through! “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and as makeup artists, we must do our best job to allow our client’s best features to shine through.
What inspired you to create the RPM Makeup Academy, and what was the most challenging aspect of getting it up-and-running?
I really have to credit my business partner, Alfredo Andreani. Alfredo knew I had a passion for teaching. He told me if I wanted to reach people all over the world, then we needed to do an online school. My classes went from 10 to 100 people to thousands of people all over the world. The part I enjoy the most is seeing all the photographs of my student’s work that they send me to grade. Seeing their talent inspires me!

Who was your most interesting celebrity client?
I have worked with some amazing people. A highlight for me was Britney Spears, probably because we are the same age. So growing up watching her career and working with her was a highlight. And I never had to go through such an intense interview process to get the job!
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Is yoga work? Yoga classes and spending time with my lover, Vince Neil. There is never a dull moment in his world!
How did you first meet Vince Neil?
Vegas being a small town, I would see Vince come into the Palms Salon where I worked at the time. Then I ran into him at a few events here and there. We didn’t start talking ’til one Sunday afternoon in April. I was having brunch with my mom and some girlfriends at Simon’s Restaurant in The Palms Place Hotel, Las Vegas.
Vince was alone watching a golf game. My friend, Stephanie Hill, was a long time friend with him and she invited him to join us. That was the first time we got to hang out and get to know each other on a personal level. We kept in touch as he took off for the Motley Crue Summer Tour. The day he got home from the long tour we went to the Vegas Rocks Award show and, that night, he asked me to be his girlfriend. The rest is history!
What do you two do for fun when you’re not working?
We are both are workaholics, so when we have down time we love to stay home and watch movies. We travel A LOT, so we are always catching up with friends, going to dinner, watching movies. We try to think of fun and entertaining things to do; like bowling, golfing or go-karts!
What is the best meal you’ve ever eaten?
We were touring in Tokyo, Japan. Vinnie took me to this place called Seryna’s. They served us blowfish! I was certain he was trying to poison me!!! LOL… I’m still here today, so I have to say that was the best!
What movie have you seen more than any other?
Anything with Nicholas Cage! We watch his movies over and over!
What are you working on next?
Whatever I can get my hands on that has to do with beauty and music!
