In his 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde famously wrote, “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it,” and for decades, the state of Nevada has been a prime destination for those looking to yield to their unique temptations. Las Vegas and Reno may boast bright lights and glittering casinos, but on the outskirts of Carson City, the women working at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch have been making the fantasies of customers a reality since 2008.
A “girl next door” who enjoys being active and spending time in the sun, but also loves curling up with a good book or video game, Roxanne Price moved to Nevada from the Gulf coast of Texas in 2014. She began working as a courtesan at the Love Ranch and, over the past two years, has used her compassion, sensitivity and strong communication skills to please clients from around the world. Roxanne’s goal is to not only fulfill the fantasies of her clients, but also to enhance their personal lives by connecting with them on both an intellectual and sexual level.
What’s the earliest memory you have?
Hmmm… My earliest memory would have to be with my mom in my crib. It’s vague in my mind now, but I was only one or two and I remember my nursery being decorated in cartoonish jungle characters. If I recall correctly, those jungle characters were made by my uncle’s wife from my Mom’s side. She used to do a lot of caricature stuff.
What inspired you to move to Nevada in 2014?
When I finished high school I needed to work desperately, and I wasn’t ready to commit to college so I needed an option that would fit well with me. Life at home wasn’t the best with my mother since she was going through issues of her own, so I needed a place to go that could accommodate my needs.
How did you first become aware of the Love Ranch, and what made you decide to start working there?
Like everyone else, I heard about the Nevada Legal Brothels from HBO’s Cathouse. I could’ve landed a standard job at home, but I never saw myself doing that realistically. After doing some research and watching a few live streams from the different houses I came to the conclusion that it was a safe and effective way to build my future. I’m glad I made the move to say the least.
Does one have to apply to work at an establishment such as the Love Ranch? If so, what was that process like?
Yes, there’s this cute little icon on the top left of the Bunny Ranch website that says “Girls, live the good life!” I sent in an application with two selfies attached and heard back from Dennis himself in just a few hours. Originally I was contacted to work inside one of Hof’s Las Vegas houses, but I wasn’t 21 at the time so they put me at the Love Ranch North instead.
What was your first week like at the Love Ranch? Intimidating? Nerve-wracking? Fun? Did any of the other girls help you learn the ropes, or were you on your own?
For my first week on the floor, I was pretty homesick. I’ve never left home for long period of time so I was still adjusting. The girls and staff were extremely supportive though, and there have been a few ladies over time that have mentored me.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The part of my career that I enjoy most is the satisfaction of knowing that I could help someone be open with their sexuality. I’ve met so many people who aren’t comfortable with exploring their sexual desires, so I do my best to reassure my customers that they’re in a sex positive atmosphere and they can be nothing but themselves when we are together. My services are sexual therapy, and it gives me so much joy to know that I offer something that can make someone’s life a healthy one.
Most people only know Dennis Hof from HBO’s Cathouse. What is he like in person?
Dennis is pretty much the same as how he appears on TV. He has such a big personality, and some consider him a comedian. He’s that funny. He is very generous to the people around him, and the guy is so smart. D is a very approachable person as well despite his fame. I’d have to go ahead and say he’s a pretty cool dude in my book!
Did the Lamar Odom incident at Love Ranch South in October of 2015 have any effect on business (good or bad) at Love Ranch North?
The Lamar Odom incident did not affect my business directly, so no.
Do your family and friends know that you’re a sex worker? If so, how did they react when you first told them?
Yes, I’m assuming most of them know. Before I left for Nevada in 2014, I thought long and hard about how I’d handle leaving to work in a brothel. Unfortunately the best conclusion that I came to was that I needed to make a sacrifice. To be honest, at the time I didn’t have the courage to face telling anyone what I was about to do so I just ghosted. It’s a bittersweet story but this decision has shaped me in a lot of different ways.
Has your career as a courtesan affected your ability to meet people and/or maintain healthy relationships outside of work? If so, how?
Yeah, I guess you could say so. I have all different types of relationships with the people I’ve met in this industry and they have all been equally fulfilling. I do keep my circle small, but I’m friendly with everyone around me and I treat everyone with respect. 9/10 I get that respect back and it keeps the vibes positive!
What are your fondest memories of your time playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim? What did you enjoy most about the game, and what (if anything) do you feel it could’ve done better?
My fondest memories of playing TESV were when I was first discovering all of the different mechanics and doing all of the quests for the first time. The feeling that it gave me took me back to when I was 8 years old playing Pokemon Sapphire version on my Gameboy, I was so excited to collect everything and explore every inch of the game. Most of the content that the TESV modding community has put up for users to download could be considered things Bethesda should’ve done better. With access to mods for Skyrim, the game is damn near perfect.
Aside from the remastered edition of Skyrim, what upcoming video games are you most looking forward to playing?
I’m excited for Pokemon Sun and Moon to come out in November. I’ve been playing some Pokemon Go lately so I’ll keep a lookout for updates for that as well. We Happy Few was shown at E3 and that caught my interest as well.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I go home every night after my shift and watch YouTube and Twitch streams, occasionally I’ll play a video game. On my days off, I’ll either rest or go out and do things with my friends. Reno/ Tahoe is abundant in activities; my favorites so far are hiking in Tahoe and checking out the malls in Reno.
What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I haven’t had much time for reading in the past year, the last time read a book front to back would have to be Art of the Pimp: One Man’s Search for Love, Sex, and Money. It’s an amazing biography that I’d recommend to anyone curious about the industry!
What advice would you give to individuals who are visiting the Love Ranch (or any other brothel) for the first time?
Well, whether you’re interested in participating in the exchange of money for sex, or even if you’re just wanting a tour of the facilities, it helps if you’re respectful to the ladies/staff. If you’re looking to indulge in our services, I recommend grooming before coming in and have a budget in mind that you’re comfortable sparing for a mind-blowing experience. ;)
